NEW YORK, NY / ACCESSWIRE / November 19, 2024 / Great Plains Regional Medical Center ("Great Plains") recently disclosed that it suffered a data breach that compromised the sensitive personal and protected health data of more than 130,000 patients. This data breach has led to concerns over the security of sensitive personal and protected health information entrusted to Great Plains.
WHAT'S THIS ABOUT?
On September 8, 2024, Great Plains became aware of a security incident on its IT Network. As a result, Great Plains launched an investigation with the assistance of third - party cyber security experts to determine the nature of the incident. The investigation determined that between September 5, 2024, and September 8, 2024, an unauthorized third-party gained access to Great Plain's systems and accessed sensitive patient information.Great Plains later discovered that the unauthorized third party copied some of the accessed files. Great Plains restored its systems and continued with normal operations, but the investigation revealed that a limited amount of patient information was not recoverable.
Great Plains' investigation discovered that the following types of sensitive personal information may have been exposed in the data breach:full name, demographic information, health insurance information, medical information, driver's license number, and Social Security number. On November 7, 2024, Great Plains issued a public disclosure about the data breach and started sending notice letters to impacted individuals.Compensation may be available for those individuals who received notice that their personal information was compromised.
